Meet the Team

  • Marie O'Neill (Founder)

My unique approach is rooted in my extensive training, as well as my personal and professional experience of therapy, meditation and inner practice. Using a holistic perspective, I draw on a wealth of sources from modern psychotherapy and neuroscience to ancient wisdom and modern spiritual practices.

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a postgraduate qualification from the University of Edinburgh and over 15 years’ experience working in the mental health and social care sector. My clinical training is founded in the psychodynamic model, which is the understanding that our past experiences and relationships shape our personality and sense of self. This is underpinned by the principles of the person centred approach – the awareness that each person has the ability to find their own way, if provided with the correct conditions.

I also work with mindfulness, meditation and body connection as tools for going beyond the surface level and accessing the innermost parts of ourselves, to find a deeper sense of truth and meaning. I have studied the world’s different faith paths and in 2013 I was ordained as a modern Interfaith Minister, a minister to people of all faiths and none. I have also recently completed a one year training program in Compassionate Inquiry with Canadian trauma expert Dr Gabor Mate, which has been deeply enriching to my practice.

I am a CBT therapist and I can help you if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship problems, addiction and much more. Maybe you would like to cope with your emotions better or make decisions more consciously and live without anxiety? Maybe you want to be more compassionate or more self- confident, or think about how to reach out for what you consider important and valuable? If you have decided to reach out for therapy, it may mean that you are already tired of being easily triggered and feel that you want to look at your problems from a different perspective and learn new skills.

None of your emotions or thoughts are wrong or untrue, they all have valuable information for you, about your values or unmet needs. As a CBT counsellor, I can, in the safe space of our sessions, help you look at your thoughts, emotions and reflect on how you can live a better, fuller life and how to increase the repertoire of your behaviours.

We can talk about your needs, what you would like to invite into your life and what you would like to limit. In addition to cognitive work, we can also practice Mindfulness, relaxation techniques based on breathing and short guided meditations. All this to make you feel more confident and able to trust yourself again and use the unlimited resources you have.

I work as an Integrative counsellor which, while being anchored in the person- centred approach, uses a combination of different kinds of therapy aiming to balance the consideration of the client’s past, present and future. I work in a collaborative way with clients and my aim is that the counselling session is ‘their’ space to explore what feels important to them and at their own pace.

I am also a qualified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach which has deepened my awareness of how our lifestyle can affect our mental health such as our diet, our relationships, our sleep, connection to the outdoors, work-life balance and movement. So often, the intrinsic link between the body and the mind is underestimated or overlooked.

My personal area of focus is around helping clients with low self-esteem and self- worth who may be feeling like they put everyone else first, to the detriment of their own health and energy. Maybe you are stuck in a loop of anxiety and worry around what everyone else thinks of you and can’t help but compare yourself to others in a negative way. Perhaps you’ve fallen into the common fear of questioning if you are enough or if you do enough.

Through working with compassion and non-judgement, my aim is for clients to really feel seen and heard so that they have the space to connect to themselves again, get clarity on their own needs and to develop a greater sense of self-acceptance and of their own intrinsic worth.

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a background in education. My approach is founded in CBT, which can help you achieve goals, develop wellbeing and function in the way you want to. I also use elements of schema therapy as well as aspects from other modalities, such as person-centred and CBT approaches to support those who have experienced trauma, Solution Focussed Brief Therapy and Internal Family Systems. I use a personal approach to ensure counselling is tailored to your individual needs and circumstances. I will work with you as you navigate your way on your journey of self-awareness. I am experienced in working with both young people and adults, specialising in anxiety and depression as well working therapeutically with people who are neurodiverse.

I have a strong interest in spirituality and self-discovery. I believe we can all benefit from working on ourselves to become the person we are meant to be. I am passionate about inclusion and work to ensure my practice is open and welcoming to all. My approach places you at the centre of counselling, getting to know you and understanding what is important to you as well as the changes you wish to make. I use aspects of mindfulness as well as recognising the importance of spirituality in personal growth. I am inclusive, non-judgemental, compassionate and accepting. I look forward to working with you.

I am a person-centered counsellor with a background in private practice and independent schools. I believe that healing happens in the context of relationships, and I am dedicated to cultivating a safe and welcoming environment where clients can come as they are and work collaboratively toward their goals. It takes great strength to decide to come to counselling and it has been a joy to witness the healing that happens when clients give themselves space to slow down and process.

In addition to a person-centered foundation, I draw upon psychodynamic and CBT techniques, ensuring a tailored and effective therapeutic experience. My areas of clinical work include anxiety, depression, play therapy, grief, trauma, life transition, and substance use issues. I also have an interest in supporting clients with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.

Whether children, adolescents, or adults I am dedicated to helping clients establish boundaries, create healthy coping skills, and build resilience. Ultimately, my desire is to help my clients become more grounded and experience life to the full.
